History

The dream of Baycrest, not your typical get-away-to the lake cabin in the woods, was brought to life by Bob Chevalier and George McCarthy. After reading an article in a builder’s magazine which featured a project similar to Baycrest, the Village of Loon Mountain near Lincoln NH was researched, visited, and the final result was a contract with the architects.

The area in and around Baycrest was an area cut over in 1898—the mature trees were removed for lumber and the younger species were left to stretch skyward. Now some of these trees are over 150 years old. As time marches on, new trees continue to be planted.

Baycrest currently sits on approximately 45 acres of land filled with homes and nature together. There are 70 lots in the Village of Baycrest, with a combination of townhomes and single family homes. It is often commented that once the leaves arrive in the spring, you are no longer able to see many of your neighbor’s homes.

A concept ahead of its time in the 1980’s was shared lakeshore access. This has proven to be a continued success. Baycrest Homeowner’s Association owns over 900’ of shoreline on Lake Minnewaska. There is always plenty of space for everyone to enjoy the lake; swimming, boating, sailing or fishing!

Although Baycrest continues to evolve through time, there remains a commitment to maintaining the balance between manicured and natural habitat left for everyone to enjoy. Being a wildlife sanctuary, there are always a wide variety of animals at any time. There are also several hidden walking paths to explore, or enjoying the beauty of nature from your front porch.
